Acetic acid is an organic chemical compound used for the production of many downstream products. It is one of the simplest carboxylic acids, and is an important chemical reagent and industrial chemical. It is used in the production of polyethylene terephthalate for soft drink bottles, cellulose acetate for photographic film, and polyvinyl acetate for wood glue. It is also used in many synthetic fibers and fabrics.
